The body of 13-year-old Ariba, who was swept into a stormwater drain during heavy rain in Rawalpindi on August 31, was recovered on the third day of a search operation, Rescue 1122 said on Wednesday.
According to Rescue 1122, Ariba had been swept a considerable distance downstream. Rescue teams recovered her body from the drain near Jhavoriyan along Adiala Road.
Ariba fell into the drain while playing in a street in the New Gulzar-e-Quaid area during rainfall on August 31. She was swept away by the strong current and could not be located immediately.
Rescue teams, including divers and swimmers, conducted an extensive three-day search operation using boats, ropes and searches along the riverbank. The body was eventually recovered from the drain and handed over to the family.
CCTV footage of the incident also emerged. The footage showed Ariba playing in the street during the rain before she suddenly slipped and fell into the fast-moving water.
Several children nearby were seen running towards her after she was swept away. However, the strong current carried the girl into the stormwater drain.
