The Indian women’s team clinched the Women’s Asia Cup title by defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final. Batting first, India scored 183 runs in their allotted overs, setting Sri Lanka a target of 184 runs.
In the chase, Sri Lanka struggled against India’s bowlers and were bowled out for 111 runs. Chamari Athapaththu was Sri Lanka’s top scorer with 36 runs, while Nilakshi de Silva contributed 22 runs.
For India, Shreyanka Patil delivered an outstanding bowling performance, claiming four wickets and keeping Sri Lanka’s batting lineup under constant pressure. With this victory, India secured their eighth Women’s Asia Cup title.
India produced a strong batting performance to post 183-5 in their allotted 20 overs, powered by impressive half-centuries from openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma. Verma led the scoring with a blistering 68 off 39 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes. Mandhana also played a key role, scoring 59 from 39 deliveries with five fours and three sixes.
The opening pair gave India a flying start, adding 129 runs for the first wicket before Chamudi Praboda broke the partnership by dismissing Verma in the 13th over. Mandhana followed soon after, being run out in the next over.
Richa Ghosh became India’s third wicket after making 17 off 13 balls, including a four and a six. She was dismissed by Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu. India then suffered two quick setbacks in the 19th over. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur made 14 from as many deliveries, hitting one four, before Mithali Ayodhya removed her. Deepti Sharma was then run out for five off seven balls.
India finished strongly, scoring 16 runs from the final over to take their total to 183-5. Gunalan Kamalini remained unbeaten on 11 off five balls, including a six, while Bharti Fulmali finished on two not out. For Sri Lanka, Ayodhya, Athapaththu and Praboda picked up one wicket apiece.
