Apple’s first foldable iPhone may be the beginning of a much more extensive product line, as the company is also reportedly planning several other models with the branding of iPhone Duo.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that Apple may eventually add an iPhone Duo Max, iPhone Duo mini and iPhone Duo SE to the foldable line.
The extra models, which have not yet been officially announced, could leave room for Apple to create other variations of the phone they’re developing that will fold.
Earlier, Apple was rumoured to be releasing its first foldable iPhone called iPhone Ultra.
But the company has now seemingly adopted the iPhone Duo branding, which may hint at its future plans in the foldable division.
Gurman recommends that Apple use terms like Duo Max, Duo mini and Duo SE to better fit into its product naming scheme.
In contrast, names like iPhone Ultra mini and iPhone Ultra max might not resonate as well within the company’s product lineup.
The term “Duo” might also indicate a dual-screen display for the phone, and its compact three-letter name is reminiscent of labels like Air and Pro which Apple has used with its other devices.
More foldable iPhones May Follow
If Apple broadens the line, the iPhone Duo may become the entry-level iPhone, while the other variants are catered to other segments of customers.
The iPhone Duo Max could have a bigger foldable screen for those who want more, but the Duo mini could be more compact and smaller.
In the meantime, Apple’s foldable technology may be available at a lower price than an iPhone Duo SE.
Gurman also believes Apple will spur a lot of demand when it enters the foldable space.
He says that by the start of next year the iPhone Duo is likely to be the top-selling foldable phone, which will ultimately cause resale prices to rise as well as a rise in the number of short supplies.
The introduction of the foldable could also spark other phone manufacturers to do this, too.
If the company does go ahead in the future with multiple Duo versions, it would indicate that it sees foldable iPhones as a product category.
