Hazardous smog and worsening air pollution in Lahore have raised serious concerns about the health of millions of schoolchildren, prompting calls for precautionary measures and speculation over a possible closure of educational institutions.
According to reported air quality data recorded at 8:00 AM, Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 358, indicating hazardous air pollution levels that pose significant health risks. At the time, Lahore was reported to be the world’s most polluted city, with fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations reaching 254 micrograms per cubic meter.
The worsening air quality has heightened concerns among parents, who fear that children travelling to and from school could face increased exposure to harmful pollutants and respiratory problems.
Medical experts have advised citizens to take precautions against smog exposure, including wearing appropriate face masks and limiting outdoor activities when pollution levels are high.
Will schools in Lahore be closed?
Despite the deteriorating air quality, the government has not yet issued an official announcement regarding school closures or the suspension of educational activities.
Authorities may consider measures such as adjusting school timings or closing educational institutions if pollution levels remain dangerously high. However, no final decision has been announced.
Parents, students and teachers are awaiting an official update on whether the government will introduce restrictions to protect children from the worsening smog. Until an official notification is issued, schools are expected to follow existing government directives.
