The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Wednesday changed the petrol and diesel prices, with the new rates taking effect from Thursday, September 17.
What are the petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan today?
The price of petrol was increased by Rs6.88, and the price of diesel was increased by Rs5.62. A notification has been issued in this regard as well.
The price of petrol has been set at Rs391.22 per litre, and the price of diesel has been set at Rs421.45 per litre. These prices have been changed for the next 24 hours.
Before this, the price of petrol had been increased by Rs4.10 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel had risen by Rs6.41 per litre.
Previously, the price of petrol was increased by Rs 12.90 per litre. The price of high-speed diesel was increased by Rs 3.72 per litre.
The new price of petrol had been fixed at Rs 358.77 per litre. Similarly, the new price of diesel had been fixed at Rs 381.77 per litre.
Why are petrol dealers not selling petrol under the subsidy scheme?
The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA), on Wednesday, has refused to sell petrol under the government’s relief scheme.
The relief scheme offers a reduction of Rs100 per litre for motorcyclists, rickshaw owners, and drivers of vehicles with engines up to 800cc.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, PPDA Vice Chairman Anwar Kamal stated that petroleum dealers were not consulted during the formulation of the relief scheme.
According to them, it made the implementation of the current procedure difficult.
Kamal noted that dealers have reservations regarding the scheme’s mechanism. They argued that relief should be provided to consumers through a direct and simple process.
He pointed out that dealers’ capital has already been reduced by inflation. Adding that billions of rupees remain outstanding against oil marketing companies.
