The University of Notre Dame has announced the University Presidential Fellowship 2027 for promising scholars aspiring to full funding for PhD studies in the humanities and social sciences in the USA.
The fellowship provides comprehensive financial support for selected doctoral students, including full tuition coverage, an annual stipend of up to $43,500 and health insurance. The funding can be given for up to five years, during which the student is able to concentrate on their academic studies and research.

The University Presidential Fellowship supports doctoral students in several disciplines, including English, Medieval Studies, Theology, Sociology, Economics, Political Science and Peace Studies, along with other related fields.
Both US and international students can be considered for the fellowship. Applicants must first apply for admission to an eligible full-time PhD programme at Notre Dame and meet the admission requirements of their selected department.
Students admitted to eligible graduate programmes are automatically considered for relevant fellowship opportunities, meaning there is no separate application for the University Presidential Fellowship. Academic departments nominate candidates based on their academic records, research potential and overall graduate application.
The fellowship provides support on a 12-month basis for up to five years, subject to satisfactory academic progress. In addition to tuition and the annual stipend, selected students receive coverage of the university’s health insurance premium.
International applicants may need to demonstrate English language proficiency. The listed minimum scores include IELTS Academic 7.0, TOEFL iBT 80 or Duolingo English Test 120, although requirements may vary by programme.
