PAEC’s Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-1 (C-1) has achieved a record uninterrupted operating cycle of 427 days without any interruptions, which is the longest ever in the history of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC).
With the achievement of this milestone in the Cycle 18, the plant has proven its reliability in operation and compliance with nuclear safety regulations.
In addition, the strong international performance indicators were also achieved: C-1 earned a score of 100 on the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) Performance Indicator Index in both of the first two quarters of 2026.
The score positions the plant among the best nuclear power plants in the world regarding operational performance, reliability and safety.
The accomplishment has come from the technical expertise, discipline and teamwork of the engineers, scientists and other staff members of Chashma Nuclear Power Generating Station (CNPGS).
The plant’s performance also highlights the role of nuclear energy in providing reliable and cost-effective electricity to the country.
The Senate of Pakistan has informed in September 2026 that the electricity produced from CNPGS is the second cheapest after hydropower, with a cost of Rs6.876 per unit.
PAEC has six nuclear power plants with a total installed capacity of 3,530 megawatts (MW) connected with the national grid.
The commission believes that the nuclear power plants play their role in ensuring energy security of Pakistan by generating reliable, sustainable and cost-effective electricity.
PAEC congratulated the whole CNPGS team on the achievement and expressed its appreciation for the professionalism and dedication of all the CNPGS staff in keeping the plant working through its uninterrupted operation.
