Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced good news for the people of Lahore, approving 10 days of Basant celebrations in the provincial capital.
It may be recalled that after a prolonged hiatus of 25 years, Basant was celebrated in Lahore from February 6 to 8 this year.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Zahid Bukhari said in a post on X that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had directed that a 10-day Basant festival be organised in Lahore to mark the arrival of the new year 2027.
According to the chief minister’s directions, Basant will be celebrated from January 29 to February 7, with a one-day break on February 5 to observe Kashmir Day.
Maryam Nawaz has directed the authorities to take greater measures for public safety and convenience than those implemented during the previous Basant celebrations. She said the 10-day festivities would help promote Punjab’s cultural heritage and Lahore’s centuries-old traditions around the world.
The chief minister also appealed to citizens to demonstrate the same sense of responsibility, duty and care for human lives that they showed during the previous Basant celebrations.
Last month, Maryam Nawaz had announced that a three-day Basant celebration would be held in Lahore on March 12, 13 and 14 next year.
In her earlier statement, she said that following the success of Basant 2026, Lahore would once again become a centre of colours, culture and festivities in March 2027. Music, cultural activities and other events would also be organised during the celebrations.
The Punjab chief minister had invited young people from Punjab and across the country to participate in Basant 2027, urging them to come together, create memories and brighten Lahore with their energy.
