The US Coast Guard said the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) notified it on Saturday morning that contact had been lost with the Gulfstream G100. The Coast Guard said both aircraft and marine vessels were involved in the search operation.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a search-and-rescue alert for a Gulfstream G-100 at around 1:20 a.m. local time on Saturday, October 3, after the aircraft went missing while travelling from Bermuda to the United States.
An FAA spokesperson said the agency was coordinating with the Rescue Coordination Centre and the US Coast Guard to locate the aircraft. The Coast Guard was notified by the FAA at approximately 2 a.m., according to the agency.
The aircraft disappeared off the coast of Nantucket after departing from L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda.
The US Coast Guard said the search area was offshore of Nantucket, where air and surface crews were deployed to locate the aircraft.
