Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has claimed that residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are satisfied with the imposition of governor’s rule, arguing that the province has seen little development over the past 13 years.

According to ARY News, Chaudhry said the public had welcomed the imposition of emergency measures and governor’s rule in the province. He also claimed that no protests had been held against the decision anywhere in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The federal minister urged the opposition to challenge the imposition of emergency measures and governor’s rule in court. He also invited opposition parties to include government representatives in their all-parties conference (APC), saying the government would present relevant data to support its position.

Chaudhry said Parliament would provide constitutional endorsement for the emergency measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He blamed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for the situation, alleging that the party’s rigid stance and refusal to cooperate had contributed to the decision.

Security concerns behind governor’s rule

The minister alleged that the PTI-led provincial government had failed to cooperate with the federal government on counterterrorism efforts.

He said the federal government had sought the province’s support in combating terrorism but accused the provincial leadership of engaging in political activities instead of cooperating on security matters.

Chaudhry further alleged that the provincial government had obstructed federal counterterrorism initiatives, making emergency measures necessary.

He said special security arrangements had been introduced in 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding that the decision was aimed at restoring peace and maintaining law and order.

According to the minister, emergency measures would remain in place until the objectives of peace and stability had been achieved.

Government keeps door open for talks

Despite his criticism of PTI, Chaudhry said the government remained open to negotiations with opposition parties on political issues.

He said the government would not close the door to dialogue, signalling its willingness to engage with the opposition despite ongoing political tensions.
