The Federal Constitutional Court has restored 123 candidates who lost their jobs after a paper leak involving the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC).
A two-member bench led by Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan heard the case. The candidates’ lawyer told the court that his clients had passed the PPSC exams and started working in their respective departments.
The lawyer said the candidates had also received four months’ salaries before the commission withdrew its recommendations for their appointments.
The decision came after a report about the source of the leaked paper surfaced.
Why did the court restore the candidates?
Justice Ali Baqar Najafi observed that the leaked paper was recovered after the candidates had passed their exams and the commission had issued its recommendations.
He also noted that the candidates were removed from their jobs without being issued show-cause notices or given a chance to explain their position.
The court rejected the PPSC’s stance and accepted the candidates’ petitions. It then ordered the restoration of their jobs.
