Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has declared himself fit for the series-deciding Test against South Africa in Cape Town after recovering from an abdominal injury. Green prefers to bat at number four or five, although the final decision will rest with the Australian selectors.
The all-rounder has been out of action since sustaining the injury during the final ODI against South Africa on September 30. He bowled during a training session at Newlands on Saturday but will not be available to bowl in the upcoming Test.
Green said he was fully prepared to return to the side, expressing surprise at how quickly he had recovered within a few weeks. He added that he now feels even better than before the injury. His return appears almost certain, meaning Australia are expected to make at least one change after suffering an innings-and-31-run defeat in the Gqeberha Test.
Marnus Labuschagne, Nic Maddinson and Beau Webster could be under pressure, although Labuschagne is likely to get another chance. If Green replaces Maddinson, Australia may need to reshuffle their batting order. Matt Renshaw could return to the opening position, allowing Green to bat at number five. Green performed well at number five against Bangladesh in August. However, if Renshaw keeps his current spot after scoring 272 in the first Test, Green may have to adjust his preferred batting position.
