Lahore: Visibility at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore has been reduced to 500 meters due to dense fog on Monday severely affecting flight operations.

According to airport sources, 28 domestic and international flights were affected. FlyJinnah’s flight from Lahore to Karachi was canceled due to fog.

PIA’s Lahore-Quetta flight 322 was delayed. Air Sial’s Lahore-Dubai flight 786 could not depart on time.

Air Blue’s Lahore-Karachi flight 401 and PIA’s flight 303 were also delayed. Saudi Air’s Lahore-Jeddah flight 735 was also affected.

According to sources, several flights arriving in Lahore from Karachi, Dubai, Jeddah, Riyadh, Muscat, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Doha and Istanbul arrived late.

Turkish Airlines’ Istanbul-Lahore flight arrived five hours late. FlyJinnah’s Dubai-Lahore flight 513 was diverted to Islamabad due to bad weather.

According to the airport administration, the visibility around the airport was reduced to 50 meters last night due to dense fog.

Civil aviation authorities have instructed passengers to confirm their flight before leaving the airport.

According to the Meteorological Department, fog is likely to persist in Lahore and other areas of Punjab for the next few hours.

Motorway closed

Dense fog once again covered the plain areas of Punjab, including Lahore, on the night between Sunday and Monday, bringing routine life to a halt and severely disrupting road traffic, the private media channel reported.

The thick fog badly affected traffic movement in several cities. A Motorway spokesperson said authorities closed Motorway M-2 from Lahore to Kot Momin due to poor visibility. Officials also barred heavy vehicles from using Motorway M-3 between Faizpur and Jaranwala and Motorway M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakim. Meanwhile, authorities shut Motorway M-11 from Lahore to Sialkot for all types of traffic.
