An auction for personalised number plates was organised by the Excise and Taxation Department and the Narcotics Control Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday, in Peshawar.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government held an auction for personalised number plates at Nishtar Hall in Peshawar, where number plates were sold for millions of rupees.
Many people showed great interest and bought their desired number plates at high prices.
KP number plate auction
The number plate “Wazir 1” received the highest bid and was sold for Rs15 million.
The plate “Afridi 1” was sold for Rs14.5 million to Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi.
The third highest bid was on “Khan 1,” similar to the name of PTI founder, which was bought by PTI MPA Naik Muhammad Khan from Waziristan for Rs11.1 million.
The plate “804” was removed from the auction. And plates with names like Zardari, Sharif, and national cricketers were not auctioned.
Other notable sales included “Peshawar 1” for Rs10 million. “Haripur 1” for Rs 8 million, and “Yusufzai 1” for Rs4.9 million.
Plates like “Durrani 1,” “Malakand 1,” and “Swabi 1” were sold for Rs1.66 million, 1.25 million, and 1.2 million, respectively.
Auction of choice number plates
The auction was conducted through single bidding. More plates will be sold through e-bidding in the future.
The public’s interest and participation made the event a success.
The auction was held under the supervision of Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Syed Fakhar-uz-Zaman.
Plates based on personal, tribal, political, and regional names attracted special attention and generated significant revenue for the government.
Syed Fakhar-uz-Zaman said the project is a unique and public-friendly initiative. He added that due to public interest, more personalised plates will be offered through e-bidding in the future.
He said people can submit requests for names and marks through the Dastak app. Or directly to the Director General of Excise.
He also said similar initiatives will continue to ensure public convenience, transparency, and modernisation.
The auction was attended by Director General Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control Abdul Halim Khan and other senior officials from the department.
