Basant holiday notification

The government of Punjab has officially issued a notification regarding the Basant 2026 holidays. As per the notification, the province will observe a holiday on February 6 and February 7, 2026. The holiday period will be implemented across the entire province.

Offices across the province will remain closed on Friday and Saturday. The government and semi-government institutions are also to remain closed in Punjab.

CM Punjab Basant’s initiative

The Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has instructed the officials to keep the safety of children as their first priority.

According to an official post of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) at X, special arrangements have been made in this regard to protect the young lives. Awareness drives have been initiated for parents and children, as the government is focused on celebrating the festival responsibly.

In her video message, CM Maryam Nawaz said, “I, along with my team members, have tried our best to cover each and every aspect to keep the Basant festival safe for the public. Now it is your turn to be a responsible citizen and cooperate with the government.

She added, “I appeal to the public to follow the precautionary guidelines and standard operating rules in letter and spirit.” She asked the public to ensure their own safety and the safety of their loved ones.

Moreover, in her tweet, the CM also invited the natives of Lahore to the Liberty Chowk on February 7, 2026, to celebrate Basant with her.

Kites got short

According to Dunya News, residents of Lahore have purchased such large quantities of kites that flying strings and kites have become scarce in the city. A single tawa kite is being sold for between Rs300 and Rs400. While a one-and-a-half tawa kite costs between Rs500 and Rs600.

The small kites range between Rs200 and Rs300. A two-piece flying string pinna costs Rs10,000 to Rs12,000. While one piece of flying string pinna range in between Rs4,500 to Rs5,000.
