Golden opportunity: get your e-bike on easy instalments

The process of transferring subsidies to eligible recipients of electric bikes under the Prime Minister’s PEV (Personal Electric Vehicle) Scheme has begun, officials said.

Hammad Ali Mansoor, CEO of the Engineering Development Board (EDB), announced that a total of 116,000 electric vehicles will be distributed under the scheme.

Subsidy for electric bikes under PM’s PEV scheme

According to the details, in the first phase of the scheme, subsidies are being transferred to 41,000 recipients.

These include 40,000 electric bikes, 1,000 rickshaws, and loaders. The second phase will cover subsidies for over 78,000 additional electric vehicles.

Hammad Ali Mansoor added that the government will provide nearly Rs9 billion in subsidies under the PEV scheme this year.

The program aims to make electric bikes easily accessible to students, youth, and women through convenient instalment plans.

He further explained that registration on the PEV portal is mandatory for participation.

The applicants must provide all required information through the portal. This is expected to ensure a fully digital and transparent registration and selection process.

The scheme is part of the government’s efforts to promote electric vehicles. Additionally, to promote sustainable transportation and provide affordable travel solutions for students and young professionals.

Children under 18 allowed to ride motorbikes in Punjab

Recently, the Punjab Assembly’s Standing Committee on Home Affairs has approved the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2026, allowing children under 18 to ride motorbikes in Punjab.

The committee approved the proposal to permit motorcycle riding at the age of 16.

It also decided to introduce a Juvenile Driving Permit for underage riders.

Under the bill, a formal legal framework will be created for motorcycle riders aged 16 to 18.

The Juvenile Driving Permit will be issued by the licensing authority. Compliance with prescribed conditions and supervision. Additionally, the rules will be mandatory for riding motorcycles.
