Ali Sethi set to drop fusion album Room Jhoom

Ali Sethi is about to release his new album Room Jhoom soon after being inspired by his global hit Pasoori with Shae Gill.

The project is already generating a lot of buzz, and it is a bold fusion of sound and influences.

Sethi has established himself as one of the most distinctive Pakistani voices with his fusion of eastern classical traditions and western styles.

His breakout success Pasoori was 2022’s most searched song on Google and crossed got almost a billion views on YouTube and made him an international phenomenon.

After that success, Sethi performed at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and participated in major world music festivals.

His ability to rise from Coke Studio Pakistan to the international stage also mirrors his rise among the global music scene.

Room Jhoom, which was set to be released on May 22, is a collaboration with Gregory Rogrove.

The album explores a wide sonic range from soft Sufi songs to energetic Caribbean inspired beats, marking a new creative direction.

In a recent Instagram post, Sethi explained a bit of the personal and artistic gospel journey that the album come from.

He wrote on dissociating himself from conventional methods and utilising new sounds, even if it meant going against deeply rooted cultural expectations.

He also reflected on the ways in which non-traditional musical choices are frowned upon in South Asian societies.

Rather than conform, Sethi said he decided to push boundaries and experiment as this was what he needed to bridge South Asian and Latin American pop influences.

Sethi stressed that Room Jhoom is built on trust and collaboration referring to working with Rogrove and other artists.

He expressed a feeling of excitement to share the project and its creative risks with listeners from all over the world.

The album is his second major release, since Love Language came out in August last year.

Born to Najam Sethi and Jugnu Mohsin, Sethi continues to revolutionise Pakistan’s current music scene.
