The federal government of Pakistan has today declared a public holiday across the country on Friday, May 1, on the occasion of International Workers’ Day.
The federal government has also issued a notification for the holiday on May 1.
According to the issued notification, all of the government and private offices, educational institutions and business centres will remain closed on Friday, May 1. This is so that the services of the workers and the working class can be paid tribute.
Due to the federal holiday on Friday, the public will have three days off on this occasion. Since May 1 falls on a Friday, after which there will be the usual holidays on Saturday and Sunday. This gives Pakistanis a three-day holiday to relax.
Labour Day is celebrated every year in Pakistan to express solidarity with the working class and promote their rights and welfare.
Good news for govt employees
In view of these Labour Day holidays in Pakistan, the Punjab government has directed that salaries for government employees be disbursed on April 30.
According to the notification issued by the Punjab Finance Department, all departments have to make sure of the of timely payment. The salaries need to be paid before the holidays begin.
The Government of Pakistan has already released the official list of public, bank, and optional holidays for 2026. This list also includes Labour Day, which falls on Friday, May 1.
Holiday in Pakistan 2026
Earlier, the Government of Pakistan announced the public and optional holidays for 2026 through a notification that had been issued by the Cabinet Secretariat.
The upcoming holidays include Labour Day. It will fall on May 1, followed by Youm e Takbeer on May 28.
Eid ul Azha holidays are expected from May 27 to 29. Public holidays will also be observed on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. They are expected to fall on June 24 and 25.
