Kyrgyzstan transit truck arrives at Sost, boosting regional connectivity

The first truck carrying transit goods from Kyrgyzstan has arrived at Pakistan’s Sost Dry Port, marking a historic development in regional trade and connectivity.

This is the first-ever movement of its kind by a Central Asian country, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), using its own transport network to access Pakistan.

The shipment was facilitated by a partner company of Pakistan’s National Logistics Cell (NLC) in Kyrgyzstan, highlighting growing logistical cooperation between the two countries.

Officials described the development as a major milestone that paves the way for enhanced regional connectivity and increased trade flows. The successful transit demonstrates the viability of overland routes linking Central Asia with Pakistan.

Plans are now being finalised to extend such movements all the way to Karachi ports, which would provide landlocked countries like Kyrgyzstan with direct access to sea trade routes. This initiative is expected to open up new economic opportunities and strengthen regional integration.

It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan and the Kyrgyz Republic had signed 11 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in 2025 across key economic sectors during Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov’s first official visit to Pakistan in two decades.

This development represents one of the most significant steps toward expanding bilateral trade, boosting investment flows and enhancing regional connectivity between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The agreements were finalised during the Pakistan Kyrgyzstan Business Forum in Islamabad, where both governments moved to strengthen cooperation in energy corridors, logistics, banking, mining, IT, pharmaceuticals and investment, according to the press release.
