Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has said he has taken over as head coach after previously working with junior-level teams.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Sarfaraz emphasised that his current focus is solely on the Test side, adding that the appointment of a white-ball coach is a matter for the Pakistan Cricket Board.
He noted that his coaching journey began with junior teams and said that while former cricketers are free to express their opinions, his responsibility is to support and develop the players. Sarfaraz Ahmed added that he will try to help the team perform well under his coaching.
He further said that a combination of senior and junior players can produce good results, and that players who perform well in domestic cricket will be given opportunities.
He also said that, in his role as a national selector, he has been monitoring players performing well in domestic cricket. Test captain Shan Masood is in good form, and the return to form of Babar Azam is also a positive sign. Sarfaraz Ahmed said he wants to start the new World Test Championship cycle strongly.
