Rawalpindi launches Eid ul Azha cleanliness campaign

The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC), following the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has initiated a cleanliness and awareness campaign across the city in preparation for Eid ul Azha 2026.

As part of this initiative, awareness camps are being set up across the city to inform residents about the appropriate disposal of sacrificial animal waste during the Eid festivities.

An RWMC spokesperson stated that door-to-door awareness campaigns are also in progress, alongside the distribution of pamphlets and waste bags at markets, mosques, and recreational areas.

The RWMC has urged citizens to refrain from disposing of animal waste in streets or open areas, advising them to use designated bags for waste before placing it in waste containers or handing it to sanitation workers. The company has warned that penalties will be imposed on violators, with fines reaching up to Rs 50,000 for illegal dumping in public spaces.

The spokesperson mentioned that the helpline, 1139, will be available 24/7 for complaints and assistance.

Citizens can also file complaints via the Suthra Punjab Citizen App and the company’s social media channels. As part of the campaign, RWMC communication teams have set up special awareness camps outside Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University and Rawalpindi Women University, distributing pamphlets and waste bags to students and the general public.

Furthermore, awareness materials were handed out to worshippers at mosques throughout the city following Friday prayers.

Religious leaders and scholars were also encouraged to remind citizens in their sermons to uphold cleanliness during Eid ul Azha and to support sanitation personnel.

The spokesperson also mentioned that maintaining cleanliness and protecting the environment during Eid ul Azha is a shared responsibility.
