Pakistan emerging as global IT hub: PM

PM Shehbaz highlights Pakistan’s relative economic stability amid global turmoil

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said Pakistan is moving towards a full digital revolution through strong reforms and modern IT initiatives. He said the country is strengthening its position as a global information technology hub with the help of IT parks, better infrastructure, and a young, tech-savvy workforce.

In a message on World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, the prime minister paid tribute to professionals, institutions, partners, and international supporters working in Pakistan’s telecom sector.

He said this year’s theme, “Digital Lifelines: Strengthening Resilience in a Connected World,” matches Pakistan’s vision of “Digital Nation Pakistan.” He added that this vision is based on three pillars: digital economy, digital society, and digital government, where the government is taking practical steps.

Shehbaz Sharif called the National AI Policy 2025 a major reform that will help build a strong artificial intelligence ecosystem in the country. He also said the recent successful and transparent 5G spectrum auction marks an important step toward Digital Pakistan and brings telecom services closer to global standards. He noted that GSMA has also called it a model for emerging economies.

The prime minister said the allocated telecom spectrum has increased from 274 MHz to 754 MHz. He added that the government is working on fast 5G rollout, the national fiberization policy, and promotion of local mobile device manufacturing.

He further said the telecom sector is playing a key role in the economy by attracting foreign investment, creating jobs, and increasing national income.
