Babar Azam consolidated his position in the World Test Championship by scoring a composed half-century in the second Test against Bangladesh at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
The innings was played with control and stability, marking another major achievement for Babar Azam in the competition, which also simultaneously gave Pakistan a solid foundation in a critical match situation.
After this fifty, Babar Azam became one of the top run scorers in the World Test Championship regards to consistent fifties since the WTC began.
The milestone places him in joint third position for most half centuries in WTC cricket with Zak Crawley, showcasing the consistency of his performance in the format.
He now has the third-most half-centuries in WTC games which is 20 fifties alongside England’s Zak Crawley and Australia’s Steve Smith, who both also have 20.
Two of the most prolific Test batters are on top of them. Joe Root’s 22 fifties are in second place for England, while Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne has a tally of 24.
The new rankings highlight the competitive format of the World Test Championship, in which consistency throughout the tournament is a major factor in making records.
It is a great honour for Babar to have been included in this elite list, and it shows his significance to the red-ball setup of Pakistan and the consistency of his performance in foreign conditions.
Also, Babar’s career in the WTC continues and he has more chances to further enhance his position in the next fixtures.
With plenty of Test series still to come for Pakistan, he is still in a position to fight for the top spots on the list and may even be able to close the gap on the leaders.
