The Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment has issued important instructions regarding the issuance of Electronic Travel Documents (ETD) in case of lost passports.

New guidelines have been issued regarding the issuance of electronic travel documents for those going abroad, under which verification of identity cards, passports, and immigration records has been declared mandatory for the issuance of ETDs.

In the statement issued by the bureau, it was stated that complete verification of the applicant’s identity and national status will be mandatory for obtaining an ETD.

According to the relevant authorities, verification of the NADRA identity card has been declared necessary, while verification of the MRP or manual passport through IMPASS will also be mandatory.

The statement said that if any discrepancy is found in the identity documents or other relevant records, verification of national status will be sought from the Ministry of Interior.

According to the authorities, ETDs will only be issued to those individuals whose identity card and passport are both verified.

If the identity card is verified but the passport is not, the ETD may still be issued; however, if both documents are not verified, the ETD will not be issued.

The statement further said that if the identity card or passport is not available, the process will move forward after verification from the Ministry of Interior.

According to the institution, IMPASS will also verify information through FIA’s travelling records, while for holders of manual passports, the relevant passport issuing authority will be contacted.

Furthermore, if the passport is found confiscated in the IMPASS office, FIA authorities at the relevant immigration port will be informed, while it will also be mandatory to notify the Ministry of Interior and IMPASS within 24 hours regarding the issuance of the ETD.
