Sana Yousaf , a 17 year old social media influencer, belonging to District Chitral in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was tragically murdered on the day of her birthday on June 2, 2025 in Islamabad.

She was living in Islamabad with her family.

On the day of the murder, she posted her 17th birthday video posted on her Instagram account. It showed her celebrating with friends.

According to the FIR registered at Police Station Sumbal in Islamabad, filed by her mother Farzana Sana Yousaf, a man entered their house suddenly and opened fire. Two bullets hit Sana in the chest.

Police arrested the suspect, 22 year old Umar Hayat, from Faisalabad within two days of the incident.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised Islamabad Police on X for tracing the suspect and weapon within 20 hours.

Police also recovered a pistol and Sana’s iPhone from the accused. He reportedly confessed during interrogation.

Umar Hayat admitted in court that Sana’s repeated refusal to meet him led to the killing.

He claimed he waited for her on her birthday but she did not meet him. He also said she called him again later, but did not show up.

Police said he expressed anger and frustration, which led him to go to her house and kill her.

His statement was recorded under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code before a magistrate.

On Tuesday the District and Sessions Court in Islamabad has announced its reserved verdict in the murder case Sana Yousaf. The court sentenced convict Umar Hayat to death. He was also given 10 years in prison for robbery at the victim’s house, along with a fine of Rs2 million.

The verdict was announced in the presence of Umar Hayat.
