Pakistan weather today: NDMA warns of heavy rain, thunderstorms

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert through its National Emergency Operations Centre for several parts of the country, according to the reports today.

NDMA issues weather alert for Pakistan

According to the alert, rain is expected in the next 12 to 24 hours in upper Punjab, Gilgit Baltistan (GB), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and upper areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

More rain is also expected in Islamabad and several cities of Punjab. These areas include Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, and Mandi Bahauddin.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain is likely in many districts. These regions include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Mardan, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan.

In Balochistan, rain is expected in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Qila Saifullah, Chaman, Pishin, and Sibi.

The alert also warned of thunderstorms, strong winds, lightning, and possible hailstorms in some areas.

NDMA said that strong winds and storms may damage weak structures, trees, crops, and power lines. Roads may also become very slippery and that can affect the flow of traffic.

Citizens have also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, drive carefully, and follow weather updates.

Travellers and tourists have been asked to check the weather and road conditions before visiting northern areas. Authorities have also advised all relevant departments to stay on alert.

Light drizzle reported in Islamabad

Light rain was reported in some parts of Islamabad on Wednesday. The rain brought a welcome drop in temperatures and a pleasant change in weather conditions.

Scattered showers moved across different areas of the city. It eased the recent spell of warm and dry weather. The rainfall created a cooler atmosphere. Residents enjoyed the overcast skies and drizzles in various neighbourhoods.

The weather remained very hot and dry in most parts of the country during the last 24 hours.
