Australia suffer blow as Captain Mitchell Marsh ruled out for Pakistan tour

Mitchell Marsh

Australia is facing additional challenges against Pakistan as Mitchell Marsh has suffered an ankle injury and will no longer be the captain for the ODIs.

Marsh was to lead the team for the absent Pat Cummins and Travis Head, who did not travel with the squad after returning home from the IPL. His availability for the upcoming Bangladesh tour also remains uncertain.

Josh Inglis will be the captain for Australia when they face Pakistan in the ODIs starting from May 30th in Rawalpindi.

Inglis will be captain of an already underperforming Australia team as leading players Cummins, Head, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc are missing.

The missing players are making their absences for the IPL playoffs and workload management.

Australia by missing Marsh has faced a very big blow, with Australian leadership getting confident with his captaincy after his recent IPL appearance.

Marsh played for Lucknow Super Giants, and had great results in his last 4 games, scoring 111, 90 and 96, with a 163 strike rate.

Marsh’s aggressive style of batting reflects Australia’s plans for next year’s World Cup.

Selectors will be planning a new approach to Marsh’s absence and the Pakistan series.

Matt Short is set to make the opening and Carey will follow.

This will allow room for the younger player Peake. McDonald has also stated the team is trying to place Cameron Green in the lower order to see if it could work for a long-term replacement to Glenn Maxwell in ODI matches.

No official replacement for Marsh has yet been announced, although all-rounder Cooper Connolly could be flown in after his IPL commitments end.
