Mitsubishi has confirmed that the iconic Pajero will return, with a global debut expected in autumn 2026 marking a major revival for the brand but will it attract Pakistani customers.
In Pakistan, the Mitsubishi Pajero still carries strong recall. Many buyers remember its earlier imported versions and solid off-road image.
However, a local launch looks unlikely. Mitsubishi Motors has limited presence in Pakistan’s passenger car market. The local market has also shifted toward Chinese SUVs, Japanese hybrids, and locally assembled crossovers.
For Pakistan, the more realistic scenario is grey imports. If the new Pajero is launched in Japan or other right-hand-drive markets, used or nearly new units may reach Pakistan. This will attract a niche group of buyers. These include off-road enthusiasts, frequent northern travellers, and those looking for a status SUV.
Price will remain a major hurdle. After duties and taxes, the new Pajero will be expensive. It is likely to compete with imported Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Toyota Land Cruiser, rather than regular crossovers.
Global comeback confirmed
Mitsubishi has confirmed that the Pajero will return, with a global debut expected in autumn 2026. This marks a major revival for the brand. The new model is expected to use the platform of the Mitsubishi Triton, which suggests it will be a proper body-on-frame SUV.
This means the Pajero will remain a tough, off-road focused vehicle. It will compete with models like the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Ford Everest in global markets.
Engine and performance Expectations
The company has not confirmed engine details yet. However, the Triton link gives a clear hint. The latest Triton comes with a 2.4-litre bi-turbo diesel engine. It produces around 201 horsepower and 470 Nm torque.
If used in the Pajero, this engine will suit long drives, towing, and off-road use. For markets like the Middle East and Australia, diesel remains a strong option. But in regions with strict emission rules, petrol or hybrid variants may also be introduced.
A modern Pajero is also expected to offer advanced 4WD features. These may include terrain modes, hill descent control, locking differential, better ground clearance, and improved water wading ability. These features are not confirmed yet, but buyers will expect them from a vehicle with Pajero’s legacy.
