Huawei has launched its new series of smartphones, including the Nova 16 and Nova 16z in China, alongside the higher-end Nova 16 Ultra and Nova 16 Pro.
The Nova 16 is positioned as a mid-range model in the series, offering upgraded hardware including Huawei’s Kirin 9010S processor, a 7,000mAh battery and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera capable of up to 100x digital zoom.
The more affordable Nova 16z is powered by the Kirin 8020 chipset and features a 6,000mAh battery, while retaining several premium features found across the lineup.
The Nova 16 comes with a 6.68-inch OLED display featuring a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2800 x 1280 pixels. The device also includes IP65-rated protection against dust and water and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
Meanwhile, the Nova 16z offers a slightly larger 6.7-inch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and the same 120Hz refresh rate.
Both smartphones run Huawei’s HarmonyOS 6.1 operating system and include artificial intelligence features such as image editing tools, AI-assisted photography and on-device assistant capabilities through Huawei’s Xiaoyi ecosystem.
Photography remains a major focus of the new devices.
The Nova 16 features a 50MP main camera, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with optical image stabilisation and a colour sensor designed to improve image accuracy. It also includes a 50MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.
The Nova 16z is equipped with a 50MP primary camera and a 12MP telephoto portrait lens with optical image stabilisation, alongside a 50MP front camera.
Huawei has also equipped both devices with satellite messaging support, NFC connectivity, infrared remote-control functionality and support for its Star Flash wireless technology.
The Nova 16 supports a range of advanced connectivity options, including Bluetooth 6.0 and Wi-Fi 7.
The company said the Nova 16 would be available in Sky Blue, White and Starry Black, while the Nova 16z would be offered in White, Green and Black colour options.
Pricing for the Nova 16 starts at approximately $418 for the 256GB model, rising to $558 for the 1TB variant. The Nova 16z starts at around $335 for the 256GB version.
Huawei has not yet announced when the devices will be released in international markets.
