Students protest outside British Council over leaked Cambridge papers

Students are protesting outside the British Council in Lahore on Wednesday, after Cambridge exam papers were recently leaked.

The students demand a retake of the leaked Cambridge exams and are warning of a bigger protest if their demands are not met.

Previously, a post on the social media platform X shared the news about the protest. The post read, “Students will hold a peaceful protest outside the British Council Head Office on Mozang Road, Lahore, on June 3, 2026, at 4:00 PM.”

According to the details, the protest is being held to demand fairness, transparency, and accountability over the Cambridge paper leak scandal.

According to the reports, the organisers say that an NOC has been obtained from the government, while Alkhidmat on Wheels Medical Clinic will be present for emergency support.

Cambridge papers leaked

Recently, investigations confirmed that the Cambridge International AS and A Level Mathematics Paper 52 (9709/52) had been illegally shared before the examination. It was conducted in administrative Zones 3 and 4.

Similarly, it became clear that the AS Level Computer Science Paper 12 (9618/12), held on May 12, was leaked in Pakistan before the examination.

Cambridge stressed that the circulation of leaked material in a country does not necessarily mean that the breach originated there. According to the institution, investigations are still ongoing to determine the original source.

Later, Cambridge’s senior assessment experts decided that all candidates in Zones 3 and 4 for AS and A Level Mathematics Paper 52 will be awarded “assessed marks.”

Meanwhile, the “assessed marks” method will also be applied for candidates across Pakistan for the AS Level Computer Science Paper 12.

NCCIA tasked with investigating Cambridge paper leaks

The Ministry of Interior recently ordered the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to investigate the matter related to the Cambridge paper leaks thoroughly.

According to the details, the authorities directed the NCCIA officials to investigate the case on merit.

The development came a day after Cambridge Assessment International Education confirmed that another A-Level Mathematics paper had leaked online before the exam.

The institution said it was investigating how widely the paper had spread and deciding what action to take next.

How are assessed marks calculated?

According to Cambridge, assessed marks are calculated based on how the marks the candidate scored in the components they sat compare to the marks scored by all Cambridge candidates worldwide who are entered for
those same components.

This tells whether the candidate is among the highest-scoring candidates, the lowest-scoring candidates or the average-scoring candidates for these components. Then, cumulative percentages are used to work this out.

The method for calculating assessed marks places the candidate in the same rank order position for the component(s) they did not sit as their position for the components they did sit.
