After a rise in the prices of solar panels in Pakistan, the cost of solar inverters and lithium batteries has also increased significantly across the country, according to reports on Wednesday. This increase in prices has made solar panel systems less affordable for many consumers.
Solar inverter prices in Pakistan today
According to market dealers, prices have surged due to concerns that the government may impose additional taxes on solar panels in the upcoming federal budget 2026-27.
Solar panels are already subject to a 10 per cent import tax, but now there are fears that new taxes will push the prices even higher, even before any official announcement.
Dealers said that the prices of 585 watt, 645 watt, and 720 watt solar panels have increased by up to Rs4,000. These panels are now being sold at prices ranging from Rs26,000 to Rs32,000.
Market sources have also reported that there is a major increase in the prices of solar inverters.
Prices of inverters have gone up by as much as Rs20,000. In addition to this, smaller inverters with capacities between 1kW and 3kW have become Rs5,000 to Rs10,000 more expensive than before.
Lithium battery prices in Pakistan today
At the same time, growing demand caused by hot weather and power outages has pushed up the prices of lithium batteries. Traders have increased battery prices by up to Rs20,000.
A 5kW lithium battery is now selling for around Rs260,000 in the market. The price increases have added to the financial burden on middle class families who had been looking to switch to alternative energy sources.
Budget may increase taxes on solar panels, hybrid cars
Pakistan’s upcoming federal budget may bring higher taxes on solar panels and hybrid vehicles, according to previous reports.
This could make clean energy systems and fuel efficient cars more expensive for consumers.
According to a budget preview by Topline Securities, the government is considering increasing the General Sales Tax (GST) on solar panels. The rate may rise from 10 per cent to 18 per cent in the 2026 to 2027 budget.
