The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the grace period duration after the expiration of the work visa for overseas.

According to the official notification shared by the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE), the UAE provides a time period of 30 days to six months, during which the overseas worker has to obtain a new visa.

In case of failure to obtain a visa from the UAE again, the worker will be obliged to leave the premises of the country.

The reason is that the UAE provides this time period to the workers to make them understand and regularise their legal status.

After the visa is cancelled in the UAE, the worker gets a last date to get a new visa.

In case the last date is passed, the overseas workers will have to leave the country, i.e., the UAE or have to change their residence status (meaning the workers have to decide whether they want to permanently live in the UAE or still choose to live in their national country).

According to the media reports, the grace period provided by the UAE government generally ranges from 30 days to six months, and it can be varied as per the visa category.

According to the BEOE, overseas nationals whose residence visas are cancelled in the UAE are granted a grace period to regularise their legal status.

During this period, residents are allowed to seek new employment and continue their stay in the country under a new visa.

Alternatively, they may leave the UAE through the prescribed legal process without immediately facing penalties.

The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security has also introduced an online service enabling individuals to check the exact duration of their grace period.

The service allows users to access their visa-related information through the official Smart Services portal by entering their passport details, Emirates ID number or file number.

The officials said that this facility is intended to help residents better understand their immigration status and take the necessary steps within the permitted timeframe.
