Google’s artificial intelligence service Gemini faced a sudden and widespread technical outage on Thursday, disrupting services across multiple regions including the United States, the United Kingdom, and other parts of the world. The disruption left thousands of users unable to access the platform, causing major interruptions in online activities.
According to the outage tracking website Downdetector, more than 2,000 users reported issues with Gemini not working properly. The problem reportedly peaked at around 6:11 AM US time and 11:11 AM GMT, when complaints surged sharply across different regions.
Technical data shows that mobile app users were the most affected during the outage. Nearly 58% of users reported difficulties accessing the Gemini app, while many Android users encountered an “Error 1706,” preventing them from logging in or using key features.
In addition, around 34% of users reported that the Gemini website was not loading or functioning correctly. A smaller portion, approximately 6%, experienced disruptions in automation tools and daily workflow integrations, which are commonly used for productivity and business tasks.
The sudden service interruption quickly sparked frustration among users, many of whom turned to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to report the issue and express their concerns. Hashtags related to the outage began trending as users shared screenshots and complaints about the downtime.
So far, Google has not issued an official detailed explanation regarding the cause of the outage or when full services will be restored. However, engineers are expected to be working on resolving the issue as the platform gradually stabilises.
