The federal government has announced changes to its policy, requiring people who wish to use tinted car windows to obtain a tinted window permit.

Under the new policy, people will have to pay Rs15,000 per year for a permit.

The changes are not yet final, as the Ministry of Interior has prepared a revised draft following recommendations from the Senate Standing Committee.

The proposal also said that serving and former members of Parliament would be able to obtain tinted glass permits without paying the annual fee.

Tinted windows are currently generally illegal for the general public under existing traffic laws, and authorities continue to fine motorists and remove illegal window films during enforcement drives.

The proposed policy has not yet been approved or implemented. It remains a draft and will only take effect after final approval by the Ministry of Interior.
