Islamabad: Constitution Avenue closed for all kinds of traffic

Constitution one avenue closed

Constitution Avenue in Islamabad has been closed for all kinds of traffic on Friday afternoon due to protest by the government employees seeking increase in salaries.

Citizens have been advised to adopt alternate traffic routes and use Margalla Road via Bari Imam to commute.

Tensions rose on Constitution Avenue on Friday as government employees attempted to march towards Parliament House during the federal budget session.

The employees began their march from Secretariat Chowk towards Parliament House but were stopped by police near PTV Chowk.

Heavy police deployment blocked several routes by placing barbed wire and tightening security in key areas. A scuffle was also reported between protesters and law enforcement personnel during the standoff.

Reports claimed that police used baton charge to disperse the crowd, further escalating tensions in the area.

The protesters continued chanting slogans in support of their demands and tried to move forward towards Parliament House.

Due to security blockades, the Federal Finance Minister reportedly had to take an alternative route to reach Parliament House.

Additional police personnel have been deployed, and the situation is being closely monitored.
