The Punjab government has decided to discontinue the temporary free public transport facility that had been introduced as part of a public relief package amid rising fuel prices.
According to officials, passengers using major public transport services, including the Orange Line Train, Lahore Metro Bus and Speedo Bus service, will be required to pay regular fares from June 13, 2026.
Authorities stated that the free travel initiative was launched on a temporary basis to provide relief to commuters following a sharp increase in petroleum prices. With the conclusion of the relief period, normal fare collection will now resume across the province’s public transport network.
Officials confirmed that all transport services will return to their standard fare structure and commuters should be prepared to pay the applicable charges from the next operational day.
The move marks the end of the temporary subsidy program that had allowed thousands of passengers to travel free of cost on Punjab’s major public transportation systems.
Earlier, Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz announced that public transport in Punjab will be completely free.
The purpose of this was to give relief to the people of Punjab. So, they can travel without being burdened by high oil prices.

The citizens will not need to buy tickets when they are riding on the Orange Line Train, Metro Bus Service, Speedo Bus and Green Electric Bus.
