Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday signed the budget documents for fiscal year 2026-27 ahead of their presentation in the National Assembly.
Earlier, addressing the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s economy has achieved stability despite facing multiple economic challenges.
Speaking at a federal cabinet meeting ahead of the presentation of the FY2026-27 budget, the prime minister said the government was fully aware of the hardships faced by ordinary citizens and remained committed to addressing their concerns.
He acknowledged that the government had been compelled to impose taxes to meet national economic requirements and commitments under the IMF programme, thereby stabilising the economy and creating further opportunities for growth and development.
The prime minister noted that these measures had placed a burden on the public and expressed his gratitude to the people of Pakistan for enduring inflation with patience and resilience.
“I personally, and on behalf of the federal cabinet, thank the 240 million people of Pakistan for their patience and perseverance during these challenging times,” he said.
At the beginning of his address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif referred to his attendance at the funeral prayers of security personnel who were martyred in the line of duty, including two Christian citizens.
He described the occasion as deeply emotional, saying it was a heartbreaking scene that brought tears to every eye. Recalling his meeting with the families of the martyrs, the prime minister said it was an extremely painful and moving experience.
