In a major advancement for women’s sports, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has officially declared the National Women’s Hockey Championship, scheduled to take place in Islamabad during the second week of July 2026.
Teams representing Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, and other regions will participate in the championship, as stated in a press release.
The tournament is expected to be a pivotal moment in encouraging and increasing girls’ involvement in hockey throughout Pakistan.
The PHF has indicated that the main goal of the championship is to motivate young female players, offer them professional training and valuable exposure, and establish a competitive pathway.
This pathway will allow them to represent Pakistan on both national and international stages, similar to their male counterparts.
Officials from the PHF noted that the National Women’s Hockey Championship will establish a strong and sustainable framework for girls’ hockey across the nation.
The federation expressed optimism that this initiative will signify the start of a promising and successful future for hockey in Pakistan.
PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani also conveyed his best wishes to all teams taking part in the tournament.
Punjab govt approves Rs150 million grant for PHF
Earlier, the Punjab government announced a grant of Rs150 million for the Pakistan Hockey Federation.
The funds will be spent on promoting hockey at the grassroots level and modernising coaching standards.
On the special instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, the Government of Punjab approved a substantial grant of Rs150 million (15 crore) for the revival of hockey in the country, talent development at the grassroots level, and coaching and technical development.
