The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has persistently worked to improve the fitness levels of the Junior Under-21 hockey team, aligning player preparation with contemporary standards.
In line with these efforts, a special session was held for the junior team, overseen by senior sports nutrition expert Dr. Nabeel, as stated in a press release.
During this session, players were informed about various nutrition-related challenges they face and were provided with practical solutions to tackle these issues.
The event was attended by Shahid-ul-Islam, Deputy Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board, Olympian Ayaz Mahmood, Head Coach of the National Under-21 hockey Team, Coach Olympian Syed Sameer Hussain, and International Coach Azfar Yaqoob.
The main goal of the session was to identify and resolve fitness-related concerns impacting the players. PHF officials indicated that all available resources and facilities are being employed to ensure the team reaches exemplary fitness standards.
Dr. Nabeel offered players essential advice on effective muscle training and injury prevention through proper nutritional planning.
He highlighted that a balanced diet and suitable nutritional intake are crucial for professional athletes, not only for sustaining peak fitness but also for achieving optimal performance on the field.
National development plan for women’s hockey introduced
Earlier, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), along with provincial associations, introduced a national development plan for women’s hockey, set to follow the National Girls Hockey Championship in July 2026.
This championship will act as a vital platform for identifying talent, aimed at improving and broadening the national women’s hockey program based on modern and merit-based principles, according to a press release.
After the championship ends, a national selection committee will choose 30–40 exceptional players based on their performance, fitness, and potential.
