The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), along with provincial associations, has introduced a national development plan for women’s hockey, set to follow the National Girls Hockey Championship in July 2026.
This championship will act as a vital platform for identifying talent, aimed at improving and broadening the national women’s hockey program based on modern and merit-based principles, according to a press release.
After the championship ends, a national selection committee will choose 30–40 exceptional players based on their performance, fitness, and potential. These players will be invited to a centralised high-performance training camp in Islamabad.
The camp will concentrate on advanced technical skills, tactical growth, physical conditioning, and mental strength improvement under a well-structured coaching system.
After the training period, a core national team of 15–18 players will be selected. This team will represent Pakistan in future international competitions and friendly matches.
PHF to introduce international matches
The federation is actively working to set up international friendly matches and exposure tours to boost competitiveness at the Asian level.
Collaborations with regional hockey nations and participation in international training camps are part of the plan.
The PHF highlighted the need for a sustainable pipeline through provincial and regional women’s hockey academies, under-16 and under-18 development programs, regular inter-school and inter-college competitions, modernised coaching and professional training support.
This initiative shows Pakistan’s dedication to reviving women’s hockey and creating a competitive national team that can excel at both Asian and international levels.
