UAE schools across the country are actively preparing for the 2026-27 academic year by recruiting qualified teachers.
Student enrolment continues to rise, while shortages are being reported in important subjects. Education providers have started hiring months in advance.
According to reports, schools that follow British, American, and International Baccalaureate (IB) curricula are competing globally to attract highly skilled educators. The demand for teachers has become increasingly competitive.
One of the country’s largest education providers, Taleem, which manages more than 30 schools, began its recruitment process well before the end of the current academic year. Nicki Williams, Director of Education at Taleem, explained that any additional hiring is mainly because of increased student enrolment and the growing demand for school places.
She said that certain subjects, particularly Mathematics and the Sciences, continue to face international shortages. Taleem conducts extensive global talent searches every year, approaching potential candidates before the busiest recruitment periods begin.
Williams said that starting the hiring process early allows schools to secure highly qualified teachers. Taleem recruits both internationally and from within the UAE with global expertise and local educational experience.
Schools are seeking teachers who can inspire students, encourage critical thinking, creativity, and support independent learning. These skills are becoming increasingly important in modern educational systems. Additionally, strong classroom management, effective communication abilities, and the meaningful use of technology in lessons are also among the qualities schools highly value.
In addition, Williams stated that schools particularly appreciate educators who are culturally aware, adaptable, and able to contribute positively to multicultural communities.
