How to apply for driving permits for teenagers aged 16 to 18 in Punjab

The Punjab government has announced the fees and conditions for Juvenile Driving Permits, today, on Thursday. According to the details, the permit will allow the teenagers who are aged between 16 and 18 to legally ride motorcycles across the province.

Apply for Punjab teenage driving permits

The initiative has been introduced under the special vision of the Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

It is expected to provide young people with a legal pathway to ride motorcycles before turning 18.

Under the new policy, teenagers who are aged 16 to 18 will be allowed to obtain a Juvenile Driving Permit after fulfilling the required legal conditions.

Fee and rules

According to the Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), the permit fee has been set according to age groups. Teenagers aged 16 to 17 will have to pay Rs1,000, while those aged 17 to 18 will pay Rs500.

The CTO Lahore said that strict safety measures will be implemented. These include a speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour for all permit holders.

How to apply for Punjab Juvenile Driving Permits

Traffic police officials said parental or legal guardian consent will be mandatory to make sure of the safety of underage drivers and to meet legal requirements.

Applicants should present their Smart Card and B-Form and appear in person with a parent or legal guardian.

The CTO has also directed applicants to visit the permit centre with their parents or legal guardians.

In addition to this, parents or guardians will be required to bring a copy of their national identity card along with one passport sized photograph of the applicant.

Driving license applications possible from home

Separately, the Punjab government has made it easier for people toget driving license services from home.

For this purpose, the Dastak application has been connected with the Driving License Information Management System (DLIMS), and now people can easily get their driving license.

According to the Punjab Traffic Police, citizens can now use the Dastak app to access different driving license services without visiting government offices.
