Apple may shrink Dynamic Island by half on upcoming iPhone 18 Pro

iPhone 18 Pro leaks

Apple’s next premium smartphones are still months away, but a growing number of leaks are already painting a clearer picture of what users can expect from the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

The new models are widely expected to arrive in September and could bring some of the biggest upgrades seen in recent years. Reports suggest Apple is preparing improvements across performance, cameras, artificial intelligence and display technology. However, buyers may also face higher prices when the devices reach the market.

Smaller Dynamic Island could expand screen space

One of the most talked-about changes involves the Dynamic Island feature at the top of the display. Leaks suggest Apple may reduce its size by almost half.

The cutout is reportedly shrinking from around 20.8mm on current models to roughly 13.5mm. While its functions are expected to remain the same, the smaller design could make the screen feel more open and immersive for users watching videos, gaming or browsing.

Faster chip and upgraded connectivity

The iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to run on Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro processor, which is reportedly being built using advanced 2-nanometre technology.

The new chip is expected to deliver faster performance while using less power, helping improve battery life. Reports also suggest Apple may pair it with its new C2 modem, bringing better connectivity and support for satellite-based 5G services.

Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 are also expected, potentially improving download speeds, wireless connections and features such as AirDrop and Personal Hotspot.

Camera system may get professional-style control

Photography could receive a major boost this year. According to leaks, Apple is working on a variable aperture system for the main 48-megapixel camera.

The feature would allow the camera to adjust the amount of light entering the sensor depending on the scene. It could also give users greater control over background blur, helping create more professional-looking portrait shots.

Siri AI set for major leap

Artificial intelligence is expected to play a bigger role in the iPhone experience with iOS 27.

Apple’s upgraded Siri assistant is tipped to understand natural language more effectively, recognise what is displayed on a user’s screen and perform tasks across apps. Apple Intelligence features are also expected to expand into photography and other built-in applications.

Better display efficiency and colours

The Pro models are also rumoured to feature upgraded LTPO+ display technology. The new screens are expected to consume less power while delivering smoother refresh rates and improved colour accuracy.

Reports further suggest Apple may introduce new display materials that could enhance image quality and make colours appear more natural.

Beyond internal upgrades, leaks indicate Apple will retain the rear camera design introduced on the previous generation while adding new colour options, including a much-discussed Dark Cherry finish.
