Vivo has launched two new budget-friendly smartphones in China, the Vivo G5i and Vivo G5z. The company is promoting the devices as affordable options that combine a massive battery and essential smartphone features. Although both phones appear to be identical in almost every aspect.
According to Vivo, the G5i and G5z share the same model number, licence number, design, colour options, memory variants and pricing, despite being different models, leading to speculation that they are simply the same device marketed under two different names.
The screen supports a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate, while offering 83% NTSC colour coverage and a pixel density of 256 pixels per inch. The devices are available in a single Obsidian Black finish.
In terms of design and durability, Vivo has equipped both phones with dual stereo speakers and a fingerprint scanner. They also carry IP68 and IP69 ratings for resistance against dust and water, along with a five-star certification for drop and shock resistance.
Additionally, the octa-core chipset operates at speeds of up to 2.2GHz and includes the Adreno 613 graphics processor. Vivo pairs the chipset with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. Buyers can choose between 6GB RAM with 128GB storage or 8GB RAM with 256GB storage.
Moreover, both phones include a 50MP rear camera with autofocus for photography purposes and an f/1.8 aperture and support for up to 10x digital zoom. An 8MP front-facing camera handles selfies and video calls with up to 2x digital zoom. Vivo positions the camera system as a basic solution instead of competing with premium camera-focused smartphones.
