A K2 Airways Boeing 737-400 cargo plane goes missing following the route from Sharjah to Karachi.

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) on July 8 confirmed that the plane went missing while it was on its way to Pakistan.

Boeing 737-400 cargo aircraft went off the radar at 21:18pm as per the Pakistan Standard Time (PST).

The officials of the PAA said that contact with the plane was cut off due to a navigational system fault.

The PAA said the aircraft reported a navigation system malfunction, after which the Karachi Area Control Centre (KACC) provided immediate guidance to the flight crew.

According to the authority, the aircraft began descending rapidly a few minutes later before suddenly changing course and losing communication.

The missing cargo aircraft was being flown by Captain Rizwan Idrees and the first officer, Faisal Mehmood Jatoi.

The PAA said five crew members were on board the aircraft at the time of the incident.

Authorities are monitoring the situation, while further details have not yet been released.

The rescue operation has been initiated at sea by the Rescue Coordination Centre, according to the PAA.

As part of the operation, the Pakistan Navy has deployed the warship PNS Zulfiqar to the area where the aircraft is believed to have gone missing.

A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) surveillance aircraft is also taking part in the search mission.

In addition, a Pakistan Navy ATR aircraft has taken off from Turbat and joined the ongoing search operation.

The Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) has also deployed its commercial vessel Lahore to assist in the search and rescue efforts.

The cargo aircraft crashed into the sea approximately 300 kilometres off the coast of Karachi, according to officials.

The crew included Engineer Muhammad Hamid, Arif Siddiqui, and Loadmaster Muhammad Toufique Khan, in addition to the two pilots.

Officials said the aircraft lost contact with Karachi Air Traffic Control about 155 nautical miles west of Karachi before disappearing from radar.
