Abu Dhabi, Dubai to accept only e-passport applications for Pakistanis

Pakistan has announced an important change to its passport services for citizens living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to the details, from July 20, 2026, the Pakistani Embassy and Consulate in Abu Dhabi and Dubai will accept applications only for e passports. New applications for Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) will no longer be accepted.

According to the Pakistani diplomatic mission, the purpose of the decision is to provide overseas Pakistanis with modern and secure travel documents that meet international standards.

This means that from the date this will take effect, all new passport applications at the passport sections in Abu Dhabi and Dubai will be processed only under the e passport category.

Officials clarified that existing Machine Readable Passports will remain valid until their expiry date.

People who already have an MRP do not need to replace it immediately and can continue using it for travel until it expires.

The diplomatic mission also said that the online passport application service for overseas Pakistanis will continue. This will allow applicants to apply for a new e passport without unnecessary inconvenience.

The e passport contains an electronic chip that securely stores the holder’s biometric and personal information.

The new technology is expected to improve document security, reduce the risk of forgery, speed up immigration clearance and make international travel easier.

Authorities have advised Pakistanis living in the UAE to submit all new passport applications and renewals under the e passport system after July 20. They have also asked citizens to contact the Pakistani Embassy or Consulate for further information.

Abu Dhabi freezes residential, commercial rent hikes

Authorities in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, have announced a freeze on rent increases for residential and commercial properties. The move is expected to give relief to the residents, including Pakistanis and businesses, during a time of ongoing regional tensions.

The decision will apply to both new lease agreements and lease renewals, according to the reports. Landlords will not be allowed to charge more than the current rent under this new relief.
