The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) has claimed responsibility for a major attack against Taliban forces in Afghanistan’s northeastern Badakhshan province, saying its fighters killed at least 21 Taliban members, including several commanders, and wounded 37 others during a fierce clash.
According to the AFF, the operation targeted multiple Taliban checkpoints and military positions in Zebak district, where the group inflicted heavy casualties on Taliban forces and damaged several military installations.
According to Afghanistan International English, citing the AFF, the intense fighting resulted in major Taliban losses, including the deaths of several senior field commanders.
The Afghanistan Freedom Front is among several armed resistance groups that have been carrying out attacks against Taliban forces since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021. The group has remained active mainly in northern and northeastern Afghanistan, particularly in Badakhshan, Panjshir, Takhar and Baghlan provinces, where clashes between Taliban fighters and resistance groups have been reported repeatedly.
Earlier, Pakistan security forces responded swiftly and forcefully to an unprovoked attack by the Afghan Taliban on Pakistani border posts in the Kurram sector, targeting several enemy positions and silencing enemy artillery, according to security sources.
The sources said the Afghan Taliban opened unprovoked fire on Pakistani border posts using heavy weapons, mortars and other arms, prompting an immediate and effective response from Pakistani forces.
Pakistani security forces targeted several Afghan Taliban border posts, mortar positions and defensive positions with artillery, as well as light and heavy weapons.
Security sources further stated that Pakistani forces maintained full control of the border areas and responded decisively to the enemy’s aggression. The intense retaliatory operation forced Afghan Taliban fighters to abandon several positions.
