New York City officials announced a one-year temporary ban on students using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in public elementary and middle schools.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said while speaking to journalists that the schools would stop using 40 AI educational tools in the classrooms.
“Children need teachers and human connection to learn and grow. They need to develop skills alongside their peers, build relationships with educators and wrestle with tough problems on their own,” Mamdani said during the press conference.
The ban on using AI will affect almost 600,000 public school students. However, high school students can use AI in some cases.

Earlier, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani gave a strong reaction, declaring the military attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran as illegal aggression, and said that war is unacceptable under any circumstances.
In his detailed message issued on the social networking website X, he said that the attacks carried out on Iran amount to a dangerous escalation in an illegal war campaign, the consequences of which could be devastating not only for the region but for the peace of the entire world.
He stated that the bombing of cities and the massacre of unarmed civilians are contrary to international law and human values.
He made it clear that the opening of a new front would further increase global tensions and would directly affect ordinary citizens.
