At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand has arrived in Islamabad on an official visit to Pakistan.
She is scheduled to begin her official engagements on Monday (Today). This marks Anita Anand’s first visit to Pakistan since assuming office as Canada’s Foreign Minister.
During the visit, the two foreign ministers will hold bilateral talks covering all aspects of Pakistan-Canada relations. According to Foreign Office sources, the discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
The two sides will also exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.
During her stay, Foreign Minister Anita Anand is also expected to meet Pakistan’s top leadership.
Anita Anand has been Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2025, she was appointed by Canadian PM Mark Carney.
Canada pursues a broad range of interests in its bilateral relations with Pakistan, including trade and investment; climate resilience; energy security and critical minerals; people-to-people ties; governance and democracy; human rights; development cooperation; regional security and defence; counter-terrorism and anti-crime capacity building.
Canada and Pakistan are economic partners with growing trade and investment ties and significant potential to develop further.
In 2025, bilateral merchandise trade surpassed $1.2 billion, reflecting complementary strengths in sectors such as agri-food, manufacturing, and consumer goods. Increased commercial engagement between the two countries reflects Canada and Pakistan’s commitment to peace, prosperity, and inclusive growth through trade and investment.
