Apple has appointed Salman Dar as its Head of Government Affairs in Pakistan. Dar will lead Apple’s engagement with Pakistani regulators, policymakers, stakeholders, and Apple’s activities in the local market.
The appointment comes as Pakistan continues to attract major international technology companies for greater investment in the country’s digital and manufacturing sectors.
Dar brings more than three decades of experience in the technology industry. His professional background includes work across South Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He has experience in technology leadership, entrepreneurship, business development and dealing with policy and regulatory matters.
He has also been involved with the Pakistan IT Industry Association (P@SHA).
Could apple expand its presence in Pakistan?
The appointment has raised questions about whether Apple could be preparing for a larger presence in Pakistan.
Reportedly, government has been interested in encouraging Apple and other global technology companies to establish local manufacturing or assembly operations. Authorities have also been working to improve the regulatory environment and reduce barriers that could discourage international technology investment.
However, Dar’s appointment does not by itself confirm that Apple will open an official retail store, establish manufacturing operations or begin assembling iPhones in Pakistan. No such move has been formally announced by Apple.
Apple has also been restructuring its government affairs leadership. The company announced changes to the organisation following senior executive transitions, showing the importance it places on government and regulatory engagement internationally.

Pakistan is exploring efforts to bring Apple into its mobile phone manufacturing ecosystem, with a potential meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Apple CEO John Ternus drawing attention.
The development was discussed during a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication.
Officials from the Engineering Development Board (EDB) told lawmakers that efforts were underway to attract Apple to Pakistan’s manufacturing sector.
They also revealed that arrangements were being explored for a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Apple CEO John Ternus during the premier’s upcoming visit to the United States.
